About Me
My name is Shay Brooks and I like to write about myself. Well, and the people I know (or once knew). I really try not to be an asshole about it, but sometime it cannot be helped. Like the jackass I once knew who lied to everyone about having cancer (which you can read about in "To All the Narcissists I've Known Before"). Or my insane family (which you can read about in "A Hobo's Life in Tales"). Or the billion things I write about my mother who has narcissistic personality disorder (which you can read about in all my books). But I also write about myself and how much of a dumbass I've been at times. Because it helps to know when you're being a dumbass so you can prevent said dumbassery in the future.
But I write mostly about narcissism and the abuse that goes along with it, because that's my niche. It's who I am and what I am consistently trying to heal from. There is this YouTuber called "The Crappy Childhood Fairy" who is SPECTACULAR at honing in on issues that all adult children of narcissists have and giving you advice on how to fix it. I adore her (so go watch her channel!) and use her advice all the time. And it really helps. I also advocate for IFS (internal family systems) as an excellent psychological tool for healing, as well. So click on the links above to find out more. I am also working on a creating a healing circle blueprint to help people heal from their childhood trauma/high ACE score/parental narcissistic abuse/etc. But more to come on that later. But mostly, I take all my trauma and turn it into a goofy story about my life (thought it's all true, except for the parts I tell you that aren't). Because while so many things sucked, it was still (and still is) pretty goofy. Goofy with lots of swear words. They say that smart people swear, so I must be fucking brilliant.
And, if you want to learn how to write your own memoir, I have you covered, my friend. I have a whole slew of blogs you can can click on the right (Memoir Writing 101 and 102) to learn all bout memoir writing.
So welcome to my life.
Once upon a time, there was me.
And I was a total fucking accident.
(find out why here, in my first memoir: A Hobo's Life in Tales)
